The Wychley Fire

Wychley, Kent. Autumn 1962. The village post office burns down in the night. Two policemen come to ask Frank Mercer where he was. At the top of the stairs, his seven-year-old nephew listens to every word.

Frank is never charged. He is never cleared.

This is the one file Edmund Hale has never opened. He says it is because there is nothing in it. That is not quite true.
