The Anchor Hotel

The only proper hotel in Porthgrey, on the market square in Kingsgate, run in 1953 by Mrs. Edna Dalton. The night porter kept a book of every coming and going, in and out, with the time beside each name. That book survived. Readers of the case will come to know it well.

The Anchor is flats now. The brass bell is still on the desk in the lobby.
